I am so disappointed with Hip Hop music right now. I listened to over twenty straight tracks and I found uninspired, mediocre and unoriginal songs that didn’t move me. I need to be moved by the music I use to love. The following tracks were the cream of the crop. Let me make it clear, I listened to over twenty straight tracks and almost all of them were garbage. The ones with tight beats fell off towards the end and became boring. Then there were some songs on the borderline of being decent. Borderline doesn’t cut it anymore. Can someone please make a hip hop track that’s amazing?
"Lights of The City" by Estelle
Estelle is the most soulful singer of this current generation. She doesn't the get the respect she rightfully deserves and that's partly to due with the artificiality of the music industry. She's not the most glamorous songstress and is for a lack of better words, plain. That adds to the rich texture of her talent and lets you see just how raw she really is on a track. What's raw becomes ripe with time and Estelle will eventually bare fruit for her hard work.
“First Time” by Crooked I
I’m learning a lesson with my new approach to XStreams. I’ve skipped over Crooked I dozens of times because he just doesn’t look like a star. Now that I’m listening to the first few seconds of everything, I get to hear the “If I Ever Fall in Love Again” by Shai accapella - hooked immediately. Then listening to him rhyme kept me tuned in. If this is the new west, sign me up for some khakis and converse mark busters.
“Still My Nigga” by Killer Mike ft. Ludacris and Game
Rhymes with substance is a rarity nowadays. I’m looking for songs that are well rounded, interesting, different or bankable. Could this be considered conscious rap? It’s conscious of what it’s not and that’s a single for the radio. It’s a shame that Killer Mike may never grow to the level of Ludacris or Game. It’s just the logistics of this industry, but he will always have this for his portfolio.
